Peter Knight - The Gemini Cadenza PKCDOOI
You know him as the driving fiddle of Steeleye Span, but there's more to Pete Knight than endless bouts of electric jiggery pokery.
Actually he's an astute writer of very English sounding improvisation, an area he began exploring on his first solo effort -An Ancient Cause - which ironically he made while in the USA. Now resident in Hastings, surrounded by musicians and fishing fleets, he's eased back into a world where Vaughan Williams is a legit jazz musician and it's cool to warp out the same melody one of a hundred different ways. I asked him recently how he'd define his own music and elusive as ever he just beamed and told me to come up with a name for it. Okay, it's Peter Knight music, at times flighty, at times considerable, never still, butterfly like skipping and oh so very English.
Come on Peter let's have some gigs of this stuff.
