PETER KNIGHT The Gemini Cadenza
For those of you who thought Peter Knight was just the 'fiddle' player in Steeleye Span then think again. Prepare to forget your jigs and reels and settle back into what would comfortably pass as New Age music. This is Pete in subdued mood caressing the violin as only he can. The title track is delicate and waspish (as my mum would say) and although there's no main theme to hold onto, it proves a very enjoyable outing. Now, I wouldn't normally go for lengthy pieces - three of these being over 10mins - but I can honestly say that the sheer beauty is maintained throughout the album with sympathetic keyboard accompaniment. The one piece I wasn't so sure about was the distracting whale and musical 'saw' impersonations which opens "The Life And Death Of Mrs. Pearson" but then that's just a matter of taste. All in all, a very pleasant recording.
