PETER KNIGHT
"The Gemini Cadenza"
This really is a most extraordinary album. The music was written and performed by Peter Knight, fiddle player in Steeleye Span since 1970. Working alone, in his own studio, Peter plays all the instruments in the four pieces on this CD. He was also responsible for the whole recording, producing and marketing process. It is not folk music. It is innovative and experimental and could not be dismissed as new age music. It could best be fitted into the light classical genre though many influences can be heard. The publicity lists influences from Bartok via Donegal, Cajun, Jan Garbarek, Indian, Turkish taksim, jazz and Uncle Tom Cobbley and all. I don't know about that. I'm just a bloke who likes music; and 1 like this. It's verv beautiful. It also says "some of the most spiritually nourishing music of 1999", I'll wholeheartedly endorse that. If you have any interest in music outside pure folk, you should listen to this and you will almost certainly want it in your collection.
